COMMISSIONS

A work made around a person, place, subject or memory.

I accept selected commissions in painting and drawing. Some begin with a portrait, others with an object, place or image that has personal meaning. Each commission starts with a conversation about the subject, format, medium, scale and the character the finished work should have.

I also occasionally undertake selected studies or reproductions of existing works where appropriate, although my preference is to create original, personal commissions shaped around a person, place, subject or memory.

  1. 01

    Enquiry

We begin with a conversation about what you would like the work to represent, the atmosphere you have in mind and any practical questions.

  2. 02

    Direction

Together we agree the subject, size, medium and format, and I gather the reference material needed to begin.

  3. 03

    Creation

The work develops through observation and composition. Depending on the piece, I work with drawing, colour, layers of paint and texture, refining the image as it develops.

  4. 04

    Completion

Once the work is finished, we arrange a safe way for the completed piece to be collected or delivered.

Each commission is considered individually. Size, medium, complexity, reference material and timescale are discussed before work begins. Prices are provided on enquiry.
