Painting, drawing and the art of looking closely.

Painting and drawing are equally important parts of my practice. Drawing has taught me to look carefully at proportion, structure, gesture, expression and the details that give a subject its individual character. Painting gives me another way of responding to what I see through colour, light, surface, texture and atmosphere.

I studied graphic techniques at PLSP in Łomża and later completed Artistic Education at the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, earning a Master of Arts degree.

My work moves between still life, portraiture and other observational subjects. I am interested not simply in reproducing what I see, but in finding the atmosphere and character within it — the relationship between colour and light, the presence of a person, or the quiet individuality of everyday objects.

I enjoy the slow process of building an image: looking, adjusting and working with composition, layers, colour, line and texture until the work begins to feel complete. Whether I am using pencil, acrylic or oil, I want the finished piece to retain something of the mood and presence that first made me want to create it.

My artistic practice now continues in Birmingham, where making art has also become a way of connecting with people and the local community. Sweetfields' Cafe & Bakery in Sutton Coldfield has become an important part of that current chapter. It is somewhere I genuinely enjoy returning to, and the encouragement, conversation and practical support I have received there have meant a great deal to me.

Alongside my own work, I accept selected commissions in painting and drawing. I am interested in creating pieces that can remain with people for many years — work with presence, warmth and a connection to the person, place, subject or memory behind it.
